Vince Carter has signed his expected contract with the Dallas Mavericks.
The defending NBA champion Mavericks announced the signing of
the eight-time All-Star on Monday night.
Carter was a spectator for Dallas’ only practice Monday, after
also watching practice Sunday. The Mavericks didn’t announce the
details of the contract, but it is expected to be a mid-level
exception of $3 million for this season.
Dallas on Sunday acquired 6-foot-10 forward Lamar Odom from the
Los Angeles Lakers. He also wasn’t at practice Monday.
Coach Rick Carlisle expects Carter and Odom to both take part in
the team’s media day activities Tuesday.
Re-signed forward Brian Cardinal took part in practice Monday.

GREENBURGH, N.Y. (AP) — The New York Knicks have acquired Tyson Chandler from the Dallas Mavericks and sent Ronny Turiaf to the Washington Wizards in a three-team trade.

The Knicks also announced Saturday they had waived Chauncey Billups and designated him as their amnesty player.

Chandler helped the Mavericks win the NBA championship last season, averaging 10.1 points and 9.4 rebounds, and will provide the interior defense the Knicks have long lacked. The other moves were necessary to afford his contract, including using the amnesty clause so Billups’ $14.2 million salary wouldn’t count for salary cap or luxury tax purposes.

The Mavericks got reserve guard Andy Rautins from the Knicks in the deal, and there were other picks involved.

Madrid says Fernandez has agreed to play in Spain during the labor negotiations. The deal includes an option for Fernandez to play with Madrid once his contract with the NBA champions ends.

Dallas acquired Fernandez in June after three seasons with the Portland Trail Blazers. He helped Spain win its second straight European Championship title Sunday.

Fernandez has averaged 9.1 points over 24.1 minutes for his career and is known for his explosive play and three-point shooting.
